About SBTN HOUSTON – “We Make News”

SBTN Houston is the only Vietnamese TV in Houston on Directv channel 2072, Time Warner Cable channel 528, and #43 KHLM Houston.  Houston TV production has been operating over the last 3 years, and has dominant strength in news production.  Since September 2005, SBTN Houston and the sister incorporated foundation Vietnamese Voices OverseaS or VVOS had together take on the mission of “doing original and better news media” to counter much of the negative mainstream news coverage about Vietnamese. We broadcast Monday through Friday during Noon, Evening’s Prime time, and nightly at 11PM on Ch. 43 KHLM Houston.

Founded by Binh Nguyen since September 11, 2000, the company started producing radio Youth programs that aired primarily on local radio for nearly 3 years.  Since the first TV news production, “Job Market One Year after the 9/11” with CBS Newspath crew from New York, the company begins to launch TV news production on Time Warner Cable #17 since September 2002.

To date, thousands of news journals and programs have been produced primarily in Vietnamese and selectively in English for ABC KTRK, CNN International, local channel 17, SBTN, vvos.net, radio VOA News and BBC.

The Target Market – “65,000 households and in the growth”

There is a rough estimate of 160,000 Vietnamese living in Houston. There are concentrated communities in Downtown, Southwest, North, and the coastal Galveston area. Houston has seen a vast migration of Vietnamese homeowners shifting from the inner loop to suburbs of southwest and north Houston. Sugar Land and the area off Bammel and the 249 note increases in both Vietnamese residents and businesses. The original Vietnamese population centralized in downtown have multiplied into a diverse group of professionals and community leaders in all parts of the greater Houston area.

SBTN’s number of viewers are estimated, from cable and directv satellite, over 65,000 household subscribers, up to 20,000 Vietnamese in Houston and 200,000 Vietnamese nation wide.  Average about 2,000 subscribers are added on, in the growth, each month.
